Indoor Aquarium Tomato Plant

Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

Indoor plant growing project above our 64 litre fish tank (Aquarium)

Aquarium Tomato Plant Supplies

For the Tomato Plant project we used

3, 6 cell trays from a pack of 5
Aquarium Gravel
Komodo Invertebed (Using as soil) https://amzn.to/2znPy0t
A mix of Tomato Plant Seeds
Tropica Aquarium plant fertiliser (FISH AND SHRIMP SAFE) We Highly recommend this we normally get from pets at home but it’s also on Amazon https://amzn.to/2UDRjyU

We packed the bottom of each cell with aquarium Gravel, to stop the Invertebed which went in next from falling through the bottom, once the Invertebed was added and packed down then the seeds where added to each cell and then lightly covered with more Invertebed, a squirt of Tropica fertiliser in each cell and we added some of the loose Gravel for aesthetics more than anything else.

Our Process

Our idea was that the Plant roots once developed would navigate their way around the gravel into the filter area of our 64 litre which will help clean the water whilst (Hopefully) boosting Tomato growth.

We placed the glass filter cover over the trays to act as a mini greenhouse until we got growth.

From our pictures of the Tomato Plants below We think you’ll agree it seems to be working?

We’re hoping to do something like this on a larger scale post lock down.
